Budapest has four clear seasons. Average daytime highs run from about 4 °C in January and December to 30 °C in July and August, based on NASA POWER data for 2014–2023 adjusted to the city's elevation of 114 m. Rain is spread through the year, about 644 mm in total, with May the wettest month at 74 mm and March the driest at 32 mm.
For walking the city and the Danube banks in mild weather, May (21 °C) and September (24 °C) sit between the cold winter and the hottest weeks, while April (17 °C) and October (18 °C) are cooler but comfortable for sightseeing. June to August is the warmest stretch, good for outdoor baths and evenings by the river, though midday can feel hot.
From November to February highs stay at 10 °C or below, a good time for thermal baths and indoor sights. Budapest Ferenc Liszt Airport (BUD) is about 17 km from the centre in a straight line.
