Best time to visit Rotterdam: weather by month

Rotterdam has a mild climate with cool winters and pleasant summers. Using NASA POWER data for 2014–2023, average daily highs rise from 6 °C in January to 22 °C in July and August, and the city receives about 833 mm of rain a year. It lies only about 9 m above sea level, and Rotterdam The Hague Airport (RTM) is about 5 km away.

For exploring the modern architecture, the harbour and Markthal on foot, late spring and summer are the most comfortable: May averages highs of 16 °C, June 20 °C, and July and August 22 °C. April is the driest month, with about 40 mm of rain, and May stays fairly dry at 53 mm.

September is still mild, with highs of 20 °C, but rain picks up into autumn. October and November are the wettest months at about 87 mm each, and December follows with 85 mm, so pack a waterproof layer and plan some indoor time, for example at Markthal.

Winter is cool rather than freezing: highs are 6 °C in January, 7 °C in February and 8 °C in December, with average lows of 3 °C to 4 °C. With 81 mm of rain in January, a warm, waterproof coat is the most useful thing to pack.
