Tokyo has hot, humid summers and cool, mostly dry winters. Average daytime highs run from about 10 °C in January to 31 °C in August, based on NASA POWER data for 2014–2023 at the city's elevation of 11 m. Annual rainfall is about 1741 mm, and it is far from even: February is the driest month at 62 mm, while September is the wettest at 240 mm, with October close behind at 224 mm.
For long days on foot, from Shibuya Crossing to Senso-ji in Asakusa, spring and late autumn are the comfortable windows. April averages 19 °C and May 24 °C; November averages 18 °C with 110 mm of rain, drier than the two months before it. October (22 °C) is mild but often wet.
June to September is the warm, wet stretch: highs of 26 °C to 31 °C and more than 140 mm of rain every month. Winter, from December to February, brings highs of 10 °C to 12 °C, lows near freezing and the least rain of the year, good for clear views from Tokyo Skytree. Tokyo Haneda (HND) is about 15 km from the centre in a straight line, and Narita (NRT) about 59 km.
